Welcome to Metal-Cult!

Tony Iommi, Black Sabbath/Heaven & Hell

Metal can certainly lay claim to being one of the most diverse genres around today – since its lowly beginnings in the late 60s and early 70s with the likes of Black Sabbath and Judas Priest leading the charge, there has been a rapid extension of the limits of sound the genre holds.

What this site will aim to do is provide an overview of the various styles, with reviews and news covering wide ranges of subgenres such as Thrash (Megadeth, Slayer, Heathen, Morbid Saint etc.), Death (Bolt Thrower, Immolation, Entombed, Dismember, Morbid Angel), Black (Burzum, Blut Aus Nord, Darkthrone, Mayhem), Doom (Solitude Aeturnus, Candlemass, Mournful Congregation, Pentagram) and a huge number of others.

The metal genre is one in which it is hard to fully appreciate all directions the genre has taken since it all began. While there are undoubtedly solid metal bands being formed today, and the classic metal giants are still producing albums worth discussing (Iron Maiden‘s “The Final Frontier” being imminent upon writing this).

The focus of reviews will not be targeted at modern releases alone, but also those from the past – not just personal favourites, but a wide range of recordings I am unfamiliar with in order to provide not an account of the more recognised bands only, but also to delve into the vast underground that lies beneath.

Whether it’s the riffs of thrash and death, the atmosphere of black, or the pure fist-pumping glory of heavy metal, you can be sure of one thing – if you like it loud and proud, there’s sure to be something here on the site that will interest you!
